Was It Worth It?
A one-act play

The time: Somewhere in the afterlife

The setting: A card table

The stakes: Everything

The players: William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Richard Wright, Muna Lee, and Eudora Welty

The story: Famous historical Mississippi writers meet at the card table to discuss whether or not the controversial issues they wrote about and the chances they took or didn't take were worth it.

People know them as pioneers of Southern Literature, but  they were also people like us, living life, striving for their dreams, whose words for some spoke a bit too loudly for comfort; people who persevered difficult times, such as Civil Rights, the Great Depression, addictions, adultery, and loneliness, reaping from good and bad choices.

Most events discussed are historical and actual quotes are intertwined with dialogue.

Props required:  One table, one small table to hold typewriter, five chairs

Play time: 40 minutes

" How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."  Matthew 7:4-5
